Mac Mini Screen display settings software bug

I have a mac mini with the latest OS X in it.
Since upgrading OS a couple of revs ago, my mini has the most disturbing bug which has continued into the latest OS.
My display screen is a Sony Bravia 32" TV. It is connected via an HDMI cable to the Mac Mini.
When I set up the display size and resolution it works well for perhaps 10 minutes then reverts to a larger screen size all by itself. I lose the top menus, bottom displays and both sides. I can fix it by manually adjusting the display size and resolution but it does not last.
I have no means of manually saving my screen size and resolution settings in this OS, like I used to in Windows.
I have to do this set up every 15 to 20 minutes on the Mac mini.
I have tried everything I can think of, reboot, power down, restart and restore. Nothing shakes this bug.
The latest OS upload did not solve it either.
Any ideas? Anyone else have a similar problem with an external display?
