    error -43, -50

I have been using my Mac for film editing and creating DVDs, suddenly an error message comes up, error -43, -50 and will not let me burn a DVD. I work all day early to late so am unable to contact apple directly, (only home form midnight to 6am and seriously need sleep then).
Any solutions or shortcuts around the problem anyone?

Hi Monika, can you give us some more details on what you are actually doing when this error is shown. Also, what software are you using for film editing/DVD burning? What version of OSX is on your Mac?
'Deep Thought' - Mac Mini Late 2018- macOS Mojave (10.14.5)
'Marvin' - Mac Mini Late 2014 - macOS Mojave (10.14.5)
    'Orac' - MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012 - macOS Mojave (10.14.5)

    Hi,
Thank you for replying, I use Imovies and want to share into IDVD. I have been doing it for a whole year, no problems and two nights ago it suddenly came up with this error message. I have tried to clear some space by deleting a lot of movies but it has not helped so far. I am going to go and get an exernal drive and move every movie project onto it. I am not sure what an OSX is, my Mac is Snowleopard. Does that help? Sorry if I seem a bit uneducated (not the youngest and technical person)

OK, having done a search on those error codes on a Mac, they are both related to the system not being able to find files or move a file from one place to another. One possible issue is that the file permissions have been corrupted and the system isn't allowing the software to create/move files. It is also possible that these errors are symptoms of a failing hard drive or a corrupt section of the hard drive. How old is your Mac?

The first thing I would try is to Repair Disk Permissions on your hard drive through Disk Utility.

    1) Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
    2) Select you system disk on the left hand pane of the window that pops up.
    3) Select the 'First Aid' tab.
    4) Click the 'Repair Disk Permissions' button.
    5) Let it do it's stuff.

If this doesn't solve your issue then we may have to think about trying a Disk Repair.

Not a problem Monika. My fault!! OSX is the name given to the Mac operating system in general, and at the moment each individual version has the name of a 'big cat'....Snow Leopard in your case

Backing up your projects and all other files to an external drive is a VERY sensible move, particularly if the system hard drive is having problems.
