    Question Clean-up Suggestions

It's about time I clean up my iMac. I would like to get rid of unnecessary files, vestiges of applications I have previously deleted, duplicate files, etc. Occasionally, I see ads for programs, some free, some for sale, that do this. But, I have no experience with any of these programs and am looking for a good recommendation!

What program(s) do you suggest for cleaning up your Mac? Simplicity and a low risk of deleting something I shouldn't are my top priorities! Thanks for your suggestions!!

    I use CleanMyMac by MacPaw

CleanMyMac: Best Mac Cleaner App for Mac OS X. Clean My Mac | MacPaw

Relatively intuitive to use. Just make sure you read all the instructions before you click 'Clean'. But to be honest, the software doesn't appear to want to clean anything 'risky' in my opinion. But, if in doubt, don't do it!!

Thanks, JezzerP! Just curious. Seeing that my iMac is vintage about 2008 and I might be in the market for a new one around the end of the year, it looks prudent to get the 6-month subscription to CleanMyMac. Do you find that after the initial cleansing you need to continue to use this program regularly?

I really don't 'clean' my Macs very often, every other month maybe, sometimes less. What I find CleanMyMac most useful for is Application uninstallation. What you do is select the Uninstallation section and then drag the app from the Applications folder and CleanMyMac searches your drive for ALL files associated with that app...very handy.

Makes sense. I think I'll get a 6-month license. Should do everything I need! Thanks for the heads-up!!
