Adobe Launches Free Beta of Photoshop CS6

A treat today for Mac users courtesy of Adobe, with the news from AppleInsider that Adobe has just released a public beta of the first significant Photoshop update in two years, since Creative Suite 5 was released in April 2010. You can download the beta from the link at the bottom of this post, with the OS X version being 948MB in size. Among the highlights of Photoshop CS6 as outline by Adobe are Content-Aware Patch, where you can patch images with more control using the latest addition to the Content-Aware family; “blazingly fast performance” courtesy of the Mercury Graphics Engine, which gives near-instant results when you edit with tools such as Liquify, Puppet Warp and Crop; a “refined, fresh, and elegant” interface; and new and re-engineered design tools, including custom strokes, layer search, and many more.

AppleInsider notes that Adobe has yet to announce an official release date for Creative Suite 6, other than to say that it is expected in the first half of the year. There has been some talk of a May launch, but this is yet to be confirmed by Adobe. Check out the video above to see Russell Brown’s six favourite features of the new CS6 beta.

Adobe Photoshop CS6 Beta Released as Free Download

A free public beta of Photoshop CS6 has been released by Adobe. The beta features some pretty major changes to Photoshop, including a new graphics engine that dramatically speeds up performance of some tools and an all new darkened user interface.

In terms of features, Photoshop CS6 includes a new content-aware patch, blur gallery, type styles, custom strokes to shapes, layer searching, video editing tools, a new crop tool, auto-select interpolation, and improved camera RAW support.

Anyone is free to download and install Adobe Photoshop CS6 Beta and no serial number is needed, although you will be required to enter an Adobe ID and activate online within seven days of first launching the application. From then on, the software is free to use until the final release of Photoshop CS6, which is due out sometime later this year.

If you’re at all interested in Photoshop or image editing, it’s worth a look. Free downloads are available for Mac OS X and Windows, with the Mac version requiring at least 2.5GB of available disk space to install.

    Available for Apple or Mac

Watch the video below for a demonstration, or check out Adobe Labs for more info.

Pricing hasn’t been announced, but typically Photoshop is the same price as a new iPad or more. For that reason, many alternatives like Pixelmator or even iPhoto can be good enough for many users photo editing needs.

Adobe Photoshop CS6 Beta Hits 500,000 Downloads

One week after the public beta launch of Photoshop CS6, Adobe today announced that the software has already hit 500,000 downloads.
We’ve been blown away by the response to the Photoshop CS6 beta. In less than one week of its release, we’ve seen over half a million downloads and counting!! Download it for free today!

It’s not often that we provide an advance preview of the next release of Photoshop and we’re grateful for all the support and buzz the beta has received. We’re glad you’re as excited as we are to see all of YOUR requests come to life.
Adobe has yet to announce final pricing for Photoshop CS6, but has indicated that it will launch sometime in the first half of this year.

Users of older Macs should note that Photoshop CS6 drops support for 32-bit Macs, leaving out systems utilizing Intel Core Solo or Core Duo processors. Intel Core 2 Duo processors and later offer 64-bit support required for Photoshop CS6.

Change Photoshop CS6 Dark Interface Color Scheme to Light

Don’t like the dark user interface and color scheme of the Photoshop CS6 beta? You can easily change it by cycling through four different theme choices, ranging from the default darkest grey, dark grey, medium grey, and light gray.

Hit Shift+Function+F2 to lighten the Photoshop UI or Shift+Function+F1 to darken the interface elements. If you’re averse to keyboard commands, you can find the interface options within Photoshop Preferences as well.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.3 Now Fully Supports Retina

If you need something with more oomph for managing your photos than iPhoto but don’t really care for Aperture, good news: Adobe has updated Photoshop Lightroom to version 4.3, not just fixing a ton of bugs, but adding Retina support for MacBook Pros and adding support for twenty new digital cameras.

Here’s what is new, according to Adobe:

Autolayout produces a Book with the correct amount of pages but without any images added. Please note that this only occurs when the filter is set to “Unused”.
Uploading large panorama images to Revel caused Lightroom to crash.
The “Unused” filter was not properly filtering images within the Book Module.
Lightroom hangs while changing the Exposure adjustment by typing in a numeric adjustment. Please note that this only occurs when the Enter key is not typed to confirm the adjustment and another Develop adjustment is tried. Also please note that this only occurs on Windows.
After creating a new folder in Lightroom, attempting to undo that folder can sometimes cause a corrupt catalog.
An image can be simultaneously flagged as both a Pick and Reject at the same time.
Using multiple colors within a single text cell within the Book Module can cause Lightroom to crash.
Unable to post photos to Flickr when the image filename contains an apostrophe.
The active Develop slider, the one controlled with + and – keys, defaults to Exposure w
hen moving from one photo to another.
Catalogs from Photoshop Elements 11 would not update in Lightroom.
Site titles longer than 70 characters created in the Web Module can cause Lightroom to freeze.
Cell padding linking lost between sessions.
Deleting the top image in a stack causes the entire stack to disappear.
Tethered capture fails when turning camera off and back on. This also can occur if the camera goes to sleep and then wakes. This occurs only with Canon cameras and on Mac only.
Cropping an image to a small size sometimes causes the image in Develop to become blurry.
AVCHD video formats are not properly importing into Lightroom. Please note that this only occurred on Mac.
Enable Profile Corrections does not auto find iPhone 4 profile.
Crop doesn’t update in second monitor if navigator panel closed. Please note that this only occurred on Mac.
TIFF files can experience tonal shifts within Lightroom.
Mask overlay are displayed in filmstrip and navigator. They should only be displayed in the Develop Loupe.
Video files created on an iPhone 4 flickers when played in Lightroom.

In addition, Lightroom 4.3 now supports the following cameras:

    Canon EOS 6D
    Canon PowerShot S110
    Canon PowerShot G15
    Canon PowerShot SX50 HS
    Casio Exilim EX-ZR1000
    Casio Exilim EX-FC300S
    Leica M-E
    Nikon 1 V2
    Nikon D5200
    Nikon D600*
    Olympus PEN E-PL5
    Olympus PEN E-PM2
    Olympus STYLUS XZ-2 iHS
    Panasonic DMC-GH3
    Pentax K-5 II
    Pentax K-5 IIs
    Pentax Q10
    Sony DSC-RX1
    Sony NEX-VG30
    Sony NEX-VG900

If you’re a current Lightroom customer, the Mac update can be found on Adobe’s site, or through Software Update if you purchased it on the Mac App Store.

Piccure Photoshop Plugin Removes Blur From Your Shaky Photos

Adobe might be planning on shipping a shake-correcting tool with the next version of Photoshop, but Piccure is a beta plugin which you can download right now to fix camera blur in the same app – all without paying Adobe like $600 for a new version of the app you already own.

Piccure certainly looks to have the goods, but I can’t test it as I gave up on Photoshop years ago (I now use Acorn, which takes much less than an hour to launch). The good news is that the plugin is free, at least while in beta, so you can test it yourself.

There are various levels of correction, and your success rate will depend on just how bad the source photo is: blurring kills picture information after all, so a really badly shaken image can’t really be helped. The procedure is also, it would seem, processor intensive:

If the processing takes too long, either buy a faster computer, grab a coffee, or try resizing your images before starting piccure. Often the original resolution is more than you actually need

Still, in these days of optical image stabilization and amazing-quality high-ISO shooting, the blur most of use get will be minimal. And that’s just where Piccure shines, letting you polish away the little blurs that mar an otherwise perfect shot.

I’m hoping that a Lightroom version becomes available soon, as LR seems to be able to play nice with many other PS plugins, and is the place you really want a plugin that’ll help fix your photos.

Photoshop And Whole Creative Cloud Already Cracked And Pirated

Adobe’s entire new Creative Cloud suite has already been cracked, and it appears to be just as easy to do as it was for the old non-cloud version. Crackers have already made the tools available, just days after the official release.

Many thought that the Creative Cloud would mean an end to app piracy. Instead of just buying a version of Photoshop or another app, you subscribe to the suite, paying Adobe forever instead of just once. It’s like the cellphone carriers’ contracts, only for software, and the suite phones home to Adobe periodically to check that you’re keeping up with your payments.

The trouble is, Adobe has to let you download the actual app to run on your computer. And this app can be cracked.

According to legend (and probably to some real numbers I can’t be bothered to look up right now) Photoshop is the most pirated software ever. Some say that this is the reason that it is still ubiquitous in the design and photo industries, the idea bing that poor students steal it, then learn it inside out, and then pay for it (or demand that their bosses pay for it) when they start work.

It’s a nice cosy theory that probably helps many people justify their actions, and it may even be true. Either way, it’s going to continue up until Adobe can actually keep all code locked up on its servers and you pay to run Photoshop in your browser.
