Bought an Apple Time Capsule
And got an email today that it would be delivered on the 14th. Looking forward to using it with Time Machine and hopefully a couple of Dell laptops the wife and daughter still use. I have over 2700 songs on ITunes and 140+ gb of photos that I want / need to back up. I've made it a practice to back-up my photos about once every 3 months or so by burning them to a DVD and then storing that in a fire-proof safe.
I haven't figured out how to gather the photos on my MBP the way I did with a PC. On the PC I could set the search parameters to find any photo made between a date, say January 31, 2012 and the present, and it would do so. I'd save those to a separate folder and then burn that folder to a DVD. After verifying the photos were indeed on the DVD, I'd delete that folder.
I'm sure there is a way to do the same thing on my MBP but haven't found it yet. So much to learn / play and so little time to do so.

Could you not use an application such as Aperture or iPhoto to manage your photo library. They both work in a similar way, scouring your hard drive for images and copying them to their own library. It is then just a question of making sure that the Time Machine back up includes the photo library.
Apple - iPhoto - New full-screen views, emailing photos, and more.
Apple - Aperture - Pro performance with iPhoto simplicity.

Ah, I see. What I think you are wanting to look into in that case are what are known as 'Events' in iPhoto. Events need not necessarily be photos taken on exactly the same day, but are a way of grouping related snaps...all your wedding or holiday photos for example.

I installed the Time Capsule in my wireless network today and everything worked great on the MBP. My wife's laptop with Windows 7 recognized the TC and the external HD I plugged in via the USB port and could access the files etc.
My daughters laptop with Windows XP home SP2, recognized the TC but each time I tried to log on, I got this message: Unknown user, incorrect password, or login is disabled. Please retype the login information or contact the disk's administrator (67).
I made sure her Windows XP was up to date and checked everything I could think of to check. I tried 3 different downloads of Airport Utility for PC and each one produced the same error message noted above. A couple of things I'll try later today is: 1. disable the security and see if that makes any difference and then find a fix for that problem or 2. upgrade from SP2 to SP3 if that's still possible.
Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated.
