Steve Jobs Was Genuinely Furious With Android Says Official Biographer Isaacson

Macworld reports today that contrary to a recent statement by Google CEO Larry Page, who said that Steve Jobs’ annoyance at Android was just “for show”, Jobs’ official biographer, Walter Isaacson, has now come out and publicly said that Jobs did in fact have genuine, “thermonuclear” anger towards Google, because he thought that it had stolen the concept of the iPhone interface. Isaacson made the statement during a lecture that he gave at the Royal Institution in London on Wednesday night. First of all during the lecture, Isaacson explained the background to Jobs’ anger, which he said had its roots in Microsoft stealing Apple’s graphical user interface in the 1980s, and then licensing the interface out to all and sundry, including Dell, Compac and IBM, which went directly against Jobs’ own belief in a closed system, where the hardware and software are both controlled by the manufacturer or company responsible for them. It also led to Microsoft’s complete dominance of the market. When Jobs was then driven out from Apple before eventually returning to the company, the same thing happened all over again, as far as Jobs was concerned, when he created another integrated system with iPods and iPads, which worked spectacularly well. “But what happens? Google rips it off,” said Isaacson, adding “It’s almost copied verbatim by Android. And then they license it around promiscuously. And then Android starts surpassing Apple in market share, and this totally infuriated him. It wasn’t a matter of money. He said: ‘You can’t pay me off, I’m here to destroy you.’”

Isaacson concluded his remarks on the subject by saying that he believes that now Jobs is gone, new Apple CEO Tim Cook will have a different approach to Google and Android, and will settle the lawsuit.
