Apple will be slimming down next gen iPhone with in-Cell technology

There have been a few rumors that the next iconic Apple smartphone will surprise users by being slimmer. The Wall Street Journal seems to confirm the speculation by reporting that Apple will indeed use the smaller In-Cell Technology in order to make more room for a larger battery.
Industry sources stated that Sharp, LG and Japan Display are already at work producing the in-cell screens that will power the new iDevice.
“The technology integrates touch sensors into the LCD, making it unnecessary to have a separate touch-screen layer. The absence of the layer, usually about half a millimeter thick, not only makes the whole screen thinner, but the quality of displayed images would improve, DisplaySearch analyst Hiroshi Hayase stated.”
This new revolutionary technology might be Apple’s way to answer the threat the competition is posing. Samsung has pushed the “organic light-emitting displays” as the key ingredient in its latest Galaxy S III smartphone. The device comes with a 4.8-inch OLED screen which makes it thinner than the iPhone 4S.
Of course that in-cell technology is harder to manufacture when compared to LCD screens and producers are having a hard time adjusting to the new standard, but the benefit of having a larger battery on board that in turn will provide more life for iDevices is certainly a very important goal to reach for Apple. The new iPhone is expected to pack a larger 4-inch display, 4G LTE connectivity plus a new smaller dock connector.
