Pinterest releases iPad & iPhone apps

Pinterest is a fairly new social network that has been gaining in popularity due to the unique way it lets users organize and share things they love. Pinterest is now rolling out a mobile app version of their service for the iPad and iPhone.

From now on travel enthusiasts wandering around the globe can take Pinterest anywhere. The mobile app features a scrapbook where registered users can “pin” images of their choosing and then share them with others. Back in July the social network had about 23 million registered users according to statistics coming from comScore. It’s interesting to note that people originally needed an invite to access the website, but now the service is basically open to anyone who creates an account.

The iPad version of the app has been natively designed for the iPad and features its own browser. The apps were released at a special event in San Francisco this week. Pinterest co-founder Ben Silbermann stated at the launch party that Pinterest’s goal is a little bit different compared with the other social networking sites:

"Our goal has never been to get you in front of the computer transfixed for hours and hours on end, it's to get you offline."
Pinterest encourages you to go outside, explore the world, find things you love and appreciate and then share them with friends and people of the community.
