The iPad’s Market Share Continues to Increase

AppleInsider reports today that the iPad continues to forge ahead in the global tablet market, according to new figures from iSuppli, which reveal that 17 million iPad 2s and new iPads were sold in the three-month period ending in July, representing 69.6% of the tablet market. Apple’s nearest rival, Samsung, trailed far behind with just 2.254 million Galaxy Tabs sold in the same period. Amazon was even further behind in third place, shipping a little over 1 million Kindle Fire tablets. Apple’s 69.9% share of the market represented a 44% increase in sales, and was just very slightly below the iPad’s biggest ever share of the tablet market of 70%, achieved back in the first quarter of 2011.
“With the expected entrance of the 7-inch version of the iPad in September, Apple is sending a clear message that it plans to dominate the market over the long term,” said iSuppli’s head of tablet research, Rhoda Alexander.
