Apple to finally reinvent the Apple TV concept?

Apple has been talking about changing the TV concept for a while now. According to his biography, Steve Jobs wanted to reinvent television and actually had a few interesting ideas about how to do that. A new report coming from the Wall Street Journal suggests Apple is going to release something quite different in the TV department.
The new service reportedly highlights the connection between Internet and streaming services like Netflix, HULU, Flixter and the iTunes Store. Also a patent concerning cables on an Apple TV that was filed back in 2006 has been recently granted the green light. Nevertheless a deal with cable providers hasn’t been solidified yet. Steve Jobs himself was dismissive of the idea when asked about the subject. He felt that cable operator deals weren’t ideal as coverage provided by them isn’t national and serves only some territories.
Lots of rumors have been circling around the Apple TV, but apparently if Cupertino decides to design such a product it will turn out to be a high end device that not every average family can afford. The current Apple TV is an interesting device but it can’t be considered a breakthrough product, as it brings forth no new innovations. Nevertheless, the report isn’t clear which device is actually targeted, whether it’s a new Apple TV or just the current Apple TV.
