New iPad mini and future iPads might feature ITO film coating

The iPad Mini may be on its way in a couple of months and rumors about what the device will have internally are circling around the internet. A new rumor suggests that Efun, a Taiwanese-based manufacturer that works with thin substrates coated with indium tin oxide (ITO) might bring ITO film to iOS devices.

The coatings are embedded so they can reduce radio frequency interference in mobile devices. On top of that it adds an extra electromagnetic shield to the gadgets.

Efun has been known for its work on ITO technology mostly on Samsung mobile phones but the firm has been gaining in popularity ever since it announced that it will be working with Apple. It is rumored that Cupertino will be implementing the technology on the iPad mini and iPad.

The smaller 7.85-inch tablet will be the first tablet to sport ITO technology but reports coming from Far East point into the direction that the 9.7-inch iPad will be getting the same treatment as well.

Efun has been doing quite well recently. Apart from striking a deal with Apple it apparently got a boost in revenue thanks to its micro-lens films used in LCD TVs shipments to Japan and Korea.
