Skype rolls out new version of iPhone and iPad app

Fans of Skype will be happy to hear that the program just got an update for the iPhone and iPad bringing some useful tweaks to the voice-over-Internet Protocol service. The feature that stands out in the newest version is of course the ability to share photos through instant messaging. From now on, users will certainly be able to save a text message or two.

When chatting with friends and family, users will notice a "plus" icon that will allow them to send a picture located on their device or just take a picture right then and there if their camera is connected and available. Even if sharing photographs has become extremely easy these days, it is surely nice to be able to do so while chatting without having to leave the service.

Another important upgrade that the Skype 4.1. version brings is the improved power performance capabilities. The new Skype for iPhone and iPad will play nice with your battery, abstaining from draining it too much when the app is running in the background. Therefore users can keep the program running all day long on their devices and ensure they will not miss any calls or IMs.

In addition to that, the app loads much faster allowing users to go about their business more quickly.
The Skype app for iPhone supports the iPhone 3GS and iPod touch of third and fourth generations and Skype for iPad is supported by all models. Users must have iOS 4.3 or later in order for the application to work on their devices.

Skype version 4.2: One of the biggest updates today goes to Skype’s iPhone app with the introduction of the support for Messenger, Hotmail and Outlook.com contacts and the ability to sign in and sync your Microsoft account. Other new features include easy account creation from within the app, the ability to edit instant messages by tapping and holding, and support for animated emotions on Retina displays. Skype for iPad version 4.5: Skype iPad app was updated today with a few welcomed new features. First, users in United States, United Kingdom, Sweden, France, and Estonia will now be able to add money to their Skype account directly from the app. The release notes also said the app now “automatically reconnects a dropped call when your wifi or mobile network reception is poor.” More new features and fixes below:

Earlier today, Skype released version 4.6 of their iOS app that brings a couple new features with it, as well as some bug fixes and general improvements. Like some previous versions of Skype though, this one doesn’t work with jailbroken iPhones so not everyone will get to enjoy the glory.

The new app comes with a new calling experience as well as a way to mark your recent chats as read with just a few taps.
