Apple credited for automobile design shift

Apple and its products might be infiltrating in every field of activity out there, but here’s one we bet hasn’t even crossed your mind: the car business. But, that's an idea that BMW DesignWork chief designer Sandy McGill wants to change.
Historically American car lovers had a tendency to choose black or silver for their vehicles. But this is not the case anymore based on recent studies. According to new information Americans now tend to prefer white cars before any other color. McGill credits Apple for this dogma change. He believes that the iPhone and iPad maker was responsible for shifting people’s view. Former CEO Steve Jobs is particularly acclaimed for the change.
"Prior to Apple, white was associated with things like refrigerators or the tiles in your bathroom. Apple made white valuable,” commented McGill.
So far car manufacturers have been going for silver and black because of their aesthetic properties which make it easier to highlight the design of the car. Silver has also been thought of as a classy color that outlines luxury. White on the other hand is a very difficult color to maintain, especially in the cleanness department. Even so white proved to be a very popular choice in Japan, as opposed to the United States. Other colors are starting to attract customers’ eyes as well. McGill talked of blue, orange and brown.
Apple has slowly started to infiltrate in the car sector as well and recently agreed to some integration partnerships with famous companies like BMW, Audi, Chrysler, Honda, General Motors, Toyota and Jaguar.
