iOS is Safer than Android, Report Claims

Following a recent study conducted by the online security company Symantec (known for the critically acclaimed Norton Antivirus), the currently most secure against hackers or any malware mobile operating system is Appleís iOS, greatly surpassing Android. According to the analysis, iOSís app screening protocol serves a key role in keeping the operating system secure, while the platformís architecture gives it a greater resistance against malware attacks.

Symantec also added that the Apple operating system offers a superior data encryption and a stronger grip on application control. However, it was clearly stated that the Android was more efficient in terms of isolating security issues.

According to the highly qualified security team at Symantec, Android loses a lot of ground due to Googleís handle on app control. While iOS developers have to pay in order to register with Apple, who also checks their software before granting them access into the App Store, the Android developers have no such issues. With that in mind, although this would technically ensure a greater amount of apps, it also means that anyone can create a malware app and easily distribute it through the Android store, without fear of being discovered.

Although iOS was found to have many more security weak spots than Android (200 vs 18), no malware was able to make use of those weakness. Moreover, regardless of either operating systemís weaknesses, the Symantec team concluded that whether using Android or iOS, you are much more secure than on a PC, which runs Windows.

Currently the safest mobile platform available is from BlackBerry, due to it being easily and efficiently controllable by IT departments, a strong asset that made the RIM device get government support.
