Sony Unveils iPad/iPhone/iPod Speaker Dock With Innovative Sound Technologies

Sony has today announced its first iPad-compatible speaker dock, the RDP-X500iP. According to Sony, the dock is compatible with the iPhone and most iPods, as well as the iPad, and has a built-in subwoofer, ClearPhase DSP and groundbreaking magnetic fluid speakers. An auxiliary audio input facilitates connection to other sources for easy access to music, no matter where it’s stored. A full function remote control is also included in the package.

The dock boasts Sony’s state-of-the-art DMC technology, which is a combination of dual passive radiators, and the aforementioned ClearPhase DSP and magnetic fluid speakers. The dual passive radiators work in conjunction with the built-in subwoofer to provide powerful bass response in such a compact piece of kit. Instead of using conventional drivers, the magnetic fluid speakers deliver higher sound pressure levels, clearer vocals, and less distortion. In addition, the ClearPhase linear phase correction circuitry further reduces distortion and increases sound presence, making music sound crisp and clear.

As far as looks go, the dock is quite striking, with stainless steel accents and a unique speaker layout designed to both save space and improve sound efficiency.

I wonder why docks are still being made when there's AirPlay. Sony would be better off making AirPlay adapters that could be plugged on any system...
