Apple TV might get upgraded to 3.1 as suggested by iOS5 file system

With the new iOS 5 announcement, Apple also prepares for an upgrade of Apple TV, since a reference of a 3.1 version, instead of the current 2.1, is referenced in the file system.

Considering the number changes from 2 to 3 and the general upgrade marking, it is expected Apple TV will receive a major overhaul. Some analysts expect that the new Apple TV will gain some internal power from iPhone 4S and iPad 2, such as the dual core A5 processor chip and maybe a RAM boost. A dual-core Apple TV is possible to mean 1080p video playback, one many of its users have expected and desired, but hasn’t been possible so far due to the limitations of the A4 processor.

The Apple TV 3.1 reference comes in the file used to activate unreleased devices that are in testing along with the announcing of iOS 5, but we should not get ahead of ourselves, as it has happened before that some devices shown in the iOS file system have not become a reality. Some names that have come up in the past, but have not seen the light of day are iPhone 3.4, and the iPod touchh 4.2. These have been dubbed as “internal development units” by Apple officials and have proved to produce hype over nothing.

However, it is almost certain Apple TV will get the same treatment as the other iProducts and get an upgrade in the near future, since iPhones, iPads and iPods have all received a boost.
