    5 year old iMac.....

....and she seems to be getting tired. Firstly I cannot close down unless I switch off manually because she immediately springs back into life again. Continually hanging now on places like FaceBook etc and definitely getting slower in all respects. I use CleanMyMacX having progressed through the 3 previous versions but instead of the previous program of once a month complete clean I am having to use it 2 or 3 times a week. I have disabled most start ups but am wondering if there is a typical solution to a typical problem learned by experience ? I am no newbie having used every version of Windows which will give you an idea of my age and have learned much more, but not all, with the iMac. Twice and only in the past 2 months has the system completely crashed on me, with the usual sending of the report to Apple. What does anyone think of the options open to me please - I do not REALLY want to spend ££ on a new one because I am sorely tempted by the 27" but not by the price TIA for any tips.

A new SSD hard drive, extra RAM and a macOS reinstall would very likely breath new life into your iMac.
