    Desktop icons vanishing???

I have in my settings to show the hard drives on my desktop. I normally store the files i am currently working on on my desktop for easy finding. Of course they are backed up on my HDs as well but this has happened a few times now where i have my desktop icons vanish. My settings are all correct as well just the icons are gone. I can only get them back by doing a reboot. I am running the latest version of lion. Any ideas?

The only pattern i see is this seems to happen after i close a full screen app.

Let me know how this works for ya..

It's the Finder's job to display the desktop and all of its icons, including those for hard drives. The problem is that a default install of OS X renders the desktop without the drive icons.

Luckily, this is easy to correct. In fact, you can specify which desktop icons you would like to have visible simply by setting the preferences in the Finder.

    Setting Which Desktop Icons Display

Click on the desktop or open a Finder window, to ensure the Finder is currently the front most application.

From the menu bar, select Finder, Preferences.

In the Finder Preferences window that opens, click the General tab.

Place a check mark next to the items you wish to display on the desktop. The options include Hard disks, External disks, CDs, DVDs, iPods, and Connected Servers.

    Close the Finder Preferences window.

The selected items will now display on the Desktop.

If not, let me know, I'll dig a little deeper, as this is one of the most common.

Thats how i have it set up already. The problem is everything works normally until i close the full screen app. When i return to the desktop all icons are gone. My dock is still there and in settings nothing is changed. It says my icons should be displayed. But they are not. I think i found the issue now but not sure how to keep it from happening. When the icons were gone i lowered the resolution then changed back to full resolution and the icons are back. This has worked every time now so it has something to do with resolution. It says i am on full res but i think it is not until i manually change it lower then back to full.
