Unhappy Problems downloading photo's from my camera, a Sony DSC-T9 to iphoto

Just got a new iMac from my kids. Used a pc before.

I don't know if the iMac is the problem, or the camera, or the cable to connect them or me.

Two (2) times out of about 30 tries it has worked.

Generally this happens, I turn on the camera, connect it to the iMac, iphoto turn on; but I don't get the option to download any photos. I just get the same display and options as if there is no camera connected. As I said twice I got the options to download photos.

I looked at the help section and think I am doing things right. Also looked at the sony help sight and I am doing what they say to do.

This is a pain!!!! Any suggestions or help is appreciated, thanks, jim

So iPhoto starts EVERY time you plug in your camera?

I had similar issue with my Nikon D300s. First I tried with my USB card reader, no luck. Then connected same cable to camera and to iMac, still no luck. Change cable to different one and every thing worked smoothly. If you have a spare connector/cable give that a go. Also, I find Adobe Bridge much better choice to import photos then iPhoto (just a thought)

    Good luck :)

Your running on Sony so it may be using their Sony ProDuo which is barely compatible with anything these days. If it's SD then that is a very odd occurrence. If the card readers don't work I would recommend what kmria said with Adobe Bridge or Aperture.

Best bet is to check to see if software is up to date. Then check out a card reader for the iMac. Then new software. Worst case is you may have to use a PC

Apple /Sony war. That's the problem. Apple will not go through the trouble of MS compatibility. Period. I gave my Sony camera to someone with a PC and got a Samsung wireless camera that has SD cards. Instead of dealing with wires to transfer photos why not get a cheap card reader? Extra MS cards are even sold with one...
