Big Update Brings New Tools & Features To Adobe Ideas For iOS

Adobe pushed out a big update to its Ideas app for iOS today, introducing a number of news tools and features that promise to give you “more creative options and control.” There are enhanced tools for drawing, working with color, and managing layers, Adobe says — in addition to support for the iPhone 5, iPad mini, and iOS 6.

Adobe’s release notes for this update explain what’s new:
Now Version 2.5 gives you more creative options and control. Choose from three new drawing tools, quickly fill entire sections of a design with color, duplicate or merge layers, and flip layers horizontally or vertically. An enhanced eyedropper tool lets you easily compare and match colors in different parts of your artwork.

As you’d expect, the update is free to all existing Adobe Ideas customers, and it’s available to download from the App Store now. For those of you who haven’t already purchased this app, its price tag is $9.99, and it’s well worth it.

Ideas is like a digital sketchbook for your iOS devices; it lets you capture your ideas whenever and wherever you may be in the most creative way possible. You can sketch using intuitive touch controls, with a whole host of different tools. And if you’re an Adobe Creative Cloud subscriber, you can sync your Ideas projects between your devices, and open them in Adobe Illustrator on your Mac.

Adobe to Patch Zero Day PDF Security Threat this Week

Adobe to patch Acrobat exploits this week

Adobe has acknowledged reports of an active security threat in Adobe Reader and Acrobat XI 11.0.1 and earlier that's being already being exploited by hackers, and plans to release emergency updates some time this week to patch the flaws. The exploit is highly sophisticated on the level of espionage cyber attacks, according to security research company Kapersky Labs.

The threat was first reported by the security research firm FireEye which noted that the security flaws use maliciously crafted PDF docutments to install apps on the victim's computer that steal passwords and system configuration data, and can log keystrokes, too. The malware uses AES encrytpion and RSA cryptography to communicate with the attacker's servers, which also hints at possible espionage.

While Acrobat and Adobe Reader on the Mac appear to be vulnerable to the flaw, it appears that only Windows-based PCs are being targeted for now.

Adobe hasn't said when this week the Acrobat and Adobe Reader updates will be released, but has promised they are on the way.
