It appears those who ordered the LTE iPad minis late last night in the U.S. will start receiving theirs about Nov. 23, according to what we heard from a number of early buyers. Orders placed overseas are generally less specific. Apple notes only LTE models will ship “mid-November” in its advertising:

For some who choose expedited shipping, we’re hearing some reports of November 21st:

    Apple begins pre-orders for iPad mini: $329 for 16GB, $429 for 32GB, $529 for 64GB

It’s been quite an exciting week for those glued to the latest out of Cupertino, and this morning it gets better. As promised, Apple made the iPad mini available on its website for pre-order. The .68-pound tablet that is “thinner than a pencil” offers users a 7.9-inch experience on top of Apple’s traditional iOS. Apple is offering the iPad mini at $329 for 16GB, $429 for 32GB, and $529 for 64GB. Apple plans to ship the first batch to customers Nov. 2 and will make it available in-store at 8AM.

For those who want to get the iPad mini with 4G capabilities added on, they’ll have to do a bit of waiting. For the same storage capacity options as the Wi-Fi-only model, the Wi-Fi + 4G model will be priced at $459, $559, and $659. Apple revealed at its event this week that orders will ship in “mid-November” for Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint variants.

    The iPad mini has a 7.9-inch (1,024-by-768-pixel resolution) IPS LCD, A5 dual-core processor, dimensions of “200 x 134.7 x 7.2mm,” a 5-megapixel-iSight camera, 1.2-megapixel FaceTime camera, and a weight of 308g.

Additionally, as planned, Apple made the fourth-generation iPad available for customers to pre-order this evening. The fourth-generation iPad features an updated 1.3GHz A6X dual-core processer, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, and 5-megapixel back-facing camera.

Apple makes available an iPad mini Smart Cover that comes in six colors, including: gray, silver, pink, green, blue, and (PRODUCT) RED. Apple also offers its slew of 10-inch iPad accessories, including a Smart Cover and Smart Case.

Several readers are reporting they had no issues pre-ordering either product, as the Apple Store looks to be running smoothly. Pre-orders are also available via the Apple Store app on iOS.

The iPad mini is set to take aim at the Amazon Kindle Fire and Google/Samsung’s joint Nexus 7. Apple’s Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook said on the company’s Q4 earnings call this afternoon that Apple will never make a 7-inch tablet: “We don’t think they are good products, and we would never make one. Not just because it’s 7 inches, but for many reasons. One of the reasons…is size. I’m not sure if you saw our keynote. The difference in just the size between 7.9—almost 8—versus 7 is 35 percent. And when you look at the usable area, it is much greater than that. You know, it is from 50 percent to 67 percent. The iPad mini has the same number of pixels as iPad 2 does.”

Apple is sure to sell many these things over the holidays, not only because of its cheaper price, but because of some customers really want a 7.9-inch form-factor. To give some perspective on the $329 price, Apple said on its earnings call this afternoon that the iPad mini’s gross margin is “significantly below” the rest of its products.

Developers won’t be required to update their apps for the iPad mini like with the iPhone 5. The tablet has the same resolution as older iPads, giving iPad mini owners instant access to the 250,000 apps that are available for the iPad on the App Store. Oh, and yes, it has Siri too.

Early hands-on of the iPad mini from earlier this week rang out with a similar theme: iPad mini feels weightless and has a sleek feel to it. Engadget said in its hands-on post, “the smaller iPad is clearly aimed at classrooms and readers — two sectors where frills aren’t exactly necessary.” Here’s an interesting graphic that shows the iPad mini compared to relatable objects, giving a little prospective to how it feels in the hand.

Apple Already Sold Out of Initial White iPad Mini Pre-Order Stock

Apple started pre-orders for the iPad mini and 4th Generation iPad early this morning at 3AM Eastern / 12AM Pacific. As noted in our forums, the initial stock of White iPad minis sold out quickly in the U.S. Within the first 17 minutes, ship dates for the white iPad mini slipped to 2 weeks from the original "Delivers 11/2". The black Wi-Fi iPad mini remains available for delivery by November 2nd.

Of course, its hard to tell how much of the stock out is related to high demand vs. low supply. We suspect stocks may have been low as others have noted that countries outside the U.S. listed "2 week" delivery times from the first moment the white iPad minis went on sale.

As typical, Apple will also offer the iPad mini in retail stores on launch day. Apple keeps a sizable stock of devices to be available on the official launch day of products. The Wi-Fi iPad mini will be available in retail stores starting on November 2nd. Meanwhile, the cellular version is promised by mid-November.

Apple Already Preparing Some Early iPad Mini Pre-Orders for Shipment

Just 12 hours after iPad mini pre-orders went live, Apple has already begun preparing some of those first orders for shipment. The status reflects the final step before the packages are handed off to delivery companies. So far, we have seen a pair of reports in our forums with at least one of them coming from the UK, and another report from a Twitter user in Germany.

The first pre-orders of Wi-Fi models are scheduled for delivery on Friday, November 2, with Apple typically arranging with delivery companies to have shipments held until the launch date. It is not unusual, however, for a handful of orders to slip through early.

Apple sold out of its launch-day stocks of the white iPad mini models in the United States within minutes, and with the company still offering launch-day delivery on the black models it appears that supplies of the white models may be especially tight in the early going. Orders for Wi-Fi models in many other countries went to shipping estimates of two weeks essentially immediately upon opening, while cellular-capable models are projected for mid-to-late November availability.

Apple Sells Out of Remaining Launch Day iPad Mini Pre-Order Stock

While Apple sold out of white iPad mini pre-order stock in just minutes on Friday, supplies of the black models held out quite bit longer for those in the United States where Apple was showing greatest availability.

Availability of the black models in the U.S. online store began to slip on Saturday, when shipping dates for the 16 GB Wi-Fi model moved to two weeks. The 32 GB and 64 GB models have now followed suit, and all Wi-Fi iPad mini models are now being quoted two-week shipping estimates. Apple is still quoting its original "Mid November" estimate for cellular-capable models in the U.S., with other countries seeing "Late November" estimates.

The iPad mini will officially launch this Friday, November 2. For those who were not able place pre-orders in time, Apple's retail stores will begin sales at 8:00 AM on Friday.

Apple's fourth-generation iPad is also launching on Friday under a similar schedule that will see cellular-capable models delayed until mid-to-late November. New pre-orders for Wi-Fi iPad models are currently seeing shipping estimates of one week in many countries, with some seeing two-week estimates.

Apple removing delivery dates for LTE iPad mini preorders

When Apple originally announced the iPad mini, it said the LTE model would ship two weeks after the Nov. 2 launch date set for the Wi-Fi only models. It didn’t take long for Apple to extend estimated shipping dates to “2 weeks” following selling out of initial supplies. One lucky iPad mini user received their preorder already, but it appears Apple is facing major shortages leading up to the holidays. Especially for the cellular models…

As noted in the tweet below, several readers have noticed Apple has now removed the shipping date for their iPad mini LTE preorders. Previously, Apple provided a shipment date of November 23rd for many who preordered LTE iPad minis on day one. That date was already a week longer than Apple promised during the unveiling. Since providing that date, orders have now been updated to read “mid-November”, indicating Apple could be running into more delays than expected in manufacturing. Whatever the source of the shortage is, it looks like preorder customers might not receive their orders until after the 23rd.

Apple’s website also now reads “mid-November” for new preorders of the LTE iPad mini, but it seems likely that date will be pushed back soon. With many day one preorder customers not having a specific date set, it’s possible Apple’s supply backlog for iOS devices will extend dangerously into the holiday shopping season. Those who preordered recently or today could see even further delays, possibly pushing shipping dates into December.

We already know Apple is facing shortages and delays for both iPhone 5 and iMacs leading into the holiday quarter. During its recent Q4 earnings call, Tim Cook noted “We’re in a significant state of backlog” and that “it’s difficult to predict when supply/demand will balance.” He also confirmed there will be “a significant shortage” for new iMacs. However, Cook said that he didn’t predict shortages would hold back iPhone/iPad sales and the $52B in revenue expected for next quarter.

Apple now allowing Personal Pickup for iPad Mini, schedule between 10PM – 4AM

As it did for the iPhone 5, Apple has begun its Personal Pickup program for the iPad Mini. Personal Pickup allows customers to buy a device on Apple’s website or mobile app between 10PM and 4AM and pick it up in store the next day (or whenever inventory is available). There are a number of stores across the country sold out of the iPad Mini, so Personal Pickup may be your best bet to getting the 7.9-inch tablet ASAP.

Apple puts delivery dates back on LTE iPad mini orders, customers seeing November 21

After the LTE iPad mini went on sale alongside the WiFi version, we noted that customers were seeing various delivery dates for the product. However, most readers reported delivery dates of either November 21st or November 23. A few days later, Apple removed the dates leading some to believe that the LTE iPad mini may be facing some sort of delay. Today, though, the LTE iPad mini delivery date seems to be back for a number of readers. These readers are seeing November 21st delivery dates, even ones who were originally quoted a November 23rd delivery. Apple says that the devices will ship in 5 business days. New orders through the online store are still being quoted shipping in Mid-November.

LTE iPad minis begin shipping, deliveries set for as early as November 15th

Apple has begun shipping the LTE version of the iPad mini to customers who have pre-ordered. Yesterday, we noted that Apple began shipping the LTE model of the fourth-generation iPad. Like the fourth-generation models, Apple is now telling some customers that their shipped iPad minis will arrive on Friday, November 16th.

However, a check at the tracking data for one of our reader’s iPad mini LTE orders shows a delivery date of Thursday, November 15th. This is nearly a week earlier than the November 21st date that Apple had been promising many who pre-ordered the LTE iPad mini.
