Just got the iPad 2 and have a question

1st off, loving my new iPad. I searched everywhere and was wondering why my iPad doesn't charge when it's plug into my computer? Is that by design or is my iPad 2 faulty? Thanks in advanced.

    Welcome to our forums

The answer is simple I assume you use a PC as in most case late model Macs do not have this issue.

What does "Not Charging" mean? How do I charge it then?
You will often get this message when syncing with your older Mac or PC in iTunes. That's normal and nothing is broken.

If you see the message "Not Charging", it only means that the USB port you're plugged in to doesn't have enough power to charge your iPad and at the same time, power it up. Generally it does mean that you're using the iPad from the USB power, just that there is not enough power left over to charge at the same time. Don't worry, if you press the sleep button, the iPad will charge. Charging when connected to a PC is slow in any case, but it'll work - when the iPad is sleeping.

If you would like to use the iPad and charge at the same time, just use the included power adapter, and pretty fast! I charge both my iphone and also my ipad via the ipad power adapter. It is ok to do this

We have several threads regarding this matter at our Sister forum. See link to absolute beginners below.

Col.bris is correct, my iPad sometimes does not charge when most of my USB ports are occupied, ecspecially when i use the USB extension.

My silly windoze computer doesn't charge my iPad. Have to use the charger. Some computers can't put out the 10 watts required by iPad to fully charge.

Seems like a bit of a problem, that's why I only use iTunes on my Mac partition to connect/charge my i4.

iPad draws too much current to charge from PC. I believe it will charge from Mac, however. If you need to charge when you're not near an AC outlet, look into the ZAGG Sparq. It's a battery system that will quick charge your iPad or iPhone. Works great.

Interestingly (or not!) although the iPad says it is not charging in some USB sockets it is actually trickle charging so you should at least be able to maintain power if not increase the battery level slightly.

Lol, make a thread about it, I'm sure it'll be interesting to see people's many inputs. I've got a few right now.
