Apple decreases iPhone 4 shipping to make room for iPhone 5

According to Needham & Company, Apple is planning to start shipping roughly 30 million iPad units and 17 million Mac computers for this year alone. As analyst for the company, Charlie Wolf made new estimates that take into account the unexpected rise in demand for the iPad 2 since it launched in March. According to him, “while competitors have rushed to launch competing tablets […] they have been unable to undercut the price of the iPad; and they’ve fallen woefully short in matching its features, ease of use and the number of applications written for the device.”

Besides the updated forecast for the tablet, Wolf has also increased his Q3 Mac shipment estimates from 3.75 million to 4.25 million. According to his prediction, with another 5 million set to be shipped in the fourth quarter, the overall Mac distribution for 2011 is expected to reach 17 million.

However, with the increased numbers for the iPad 2 as well as Mac computers, the updated numbers include a lower estimated Q4 shipment prospect for the iPhone 4. Wolf attributes this decrease to Apple’s plans to begin production of the iPhone 5, currently rumored to appear in September.

While merely supposition, Wolf’s number crunch is supported by sales figures as well as word about many manufacturing subordinates whispering about orders.
What is clear with Needham’s revenue estimates is that Apple is still on a rise in tablet demand and that with room being made for a new device, it is very possible the iPhone 5 could very well be on its way to an unveiling very soon.
