Apple Announces Holiday Closing Dates For iTunes Connect

Apple has sent out their customer note to app developers that iTunes Connect, the web-based backend for managing app submission, updating, and reporting, will once again shut down for a week.

iTunes Connect will be temporarily shut down from Thursday, December 22 to Thursday, December 29 for the winter holidays.

During this shutdown, the following functionality will be unavailable:

    Access to iTunes Connect

The delivery of any apps or updates

Additionally, the following will be delayed:

Releases scheduled to appear on the App Store for the first time

Pricing changes scheduled through the interval pricing system in iTunes Connect

We strongly recommend that you do not schedule pricing changes through the interval pricing system in iTunes Connect that would take effect from December 22 through December 29. Pricing changes scheduled to take effect during this date range will not be reflected in the App Store and the app will become unavailable for purchase.

We also recommend that you do not schedule any apps to go live during the shutdown. Releases scheduled with a sales start date between these dates will not go live until after the shutdown.

Last year this resulted in week-long app sales for users, as developers wanted to lock in deals for the holidays.

iTunes Connect reopens early from holiday shutdown

Access to Apple's iTunes Connect service reopened a day shy of taking the full week planned for the yearly holiday shutdown of the website.

Apple's notification of scheduled iTunes Connect shutdown

The iTunes Connect developer portal came back online early Wednesday morning, allowing app makers to manage their products a full day earlier than scheduled.

Apple notified developers earlier in December that the service would be shut down for the holidays from Dec. 22 to Dec. 29, and those who attempted to access the site before Wednesday were met with a standard "Sorry We're Closed" landing page.

iTunes Connect gives developers the tools necessary to manage content offered through Apple's App Store like daily and weekly sales trackers, contract management and financial reports.

The site is an integral part of maintaining a business through the App Store and is the only way to submit new apps and updates to existing products.

According to recent reports, sales are up across iOS devices with apps tailored for the iPhone alone seeing an 83 percent boost year-to-year as of November.

Christmas Day saw a massive jump in activations of iOS and Android devices, and represented a 353 percent growth in daily activations when compared to the previous 20 days of December. The 6.8 million Christmas activations set a new one-day record, shattering last year's best day by over 140 percent.

Apple Announces Holiday Closing Dates For iTunes Connect

Does this seem early, or what? Apple’s iBooks team began emailing publishers to notify them that iTunes Connect will shutdown for the winter holidays Dec. 21 to Dec. 28. Presumably, the holiday also applies to developers a part of the App Store review process. Last year, Apple set aside Dec. 22 to Dec. 29 for what we imagine is some much-needed RNR.

As many of you know, the iTunes Connect holiday is a yearly tradition. It is a time where apps and books will not be updated and price changes will be locked. Apple recommends that no changes be submitted during this time.

We strongly recommend that you do not schedule any pricing changes in iTunes Connect that would take effect between December 21 and December 28, 2012. Pricing changes scheduled to take effect during this date range will not be reflected on the iBookstore and your book will become unavailable for purchase.

We also recommend that you do not schedule any books to go live during the shutdown. Releases scheduled with a start date between December 21 and December 28, 2012 will not go live on the iBookstore until after the shutdown.

In a separate email, which we anticipate will be sent in November, aimed at App Store developers, rather than book publishers, Apple will more than likely warn “attempting to schedule app updates or price changes from December 29 through December 29 may result in an entry being unavailable for purchase,” like it did last year.

Apple further added in its email today: “To accommodate these holiday shutdowns, we are adjusting our deadlines for books launching in the weeks surrounding Thanksgiving and the winter holiday.” Apple set the following deadlines for publishers:

Apple’s corporate offices will be closed for Thanksgiving from Saturday, November 17 to Sunday, November 25 and for the winter holidays from Saturday, December 22 to Monday, January 31.

To accommodate these holiday shutdowns, we are adjusting our deadlines for books launching in the weeks surrounding Thanksgiving and the winter holiday.

    Thanksgiving Delivery Deadlines

    Launch Date Book Deadline
    11/19—11/20 Friday 11/9
    11/26—11/27 Friday 11/9

    Winter Holiday Delivery Deadlines

    Launch Date Book Deadline
    12/24—12/25 Friday 12/7
    12/31—1/1 Friday 12/7

In addition, iTunes Connect will be temporarily shut down from Friday, December 21 to Friday, December 28, for the winter holidays. During this shutdown, the following functionality will be unavailable:

    Access to iTunes Connect.
The validation or delivery of any books or updates.
Additionally, the following will be delayed:
Releases scheduled to appear on the iBookstore for the first time.
Pricing changes scheduled through the interval pricing system in iTunes Connect.

    Regards,

    The iBookstore team

Apple's iTunes Connect to undergo scheduled shutdown on Dec. 21-27

Apple on Friday sent out emails to developers, reminding them that the iTunes Connect developer portal will be shutdown for the holidays from Dec. 21 through Dec. 27.

According to the email, developers will not be able to submit apps or in-app purchases, update Newsstand feeds or change app pricing between the quoted dates, reports iMore. Apple traditionally holds the downtime near the end of the year.

    From the email:

During that time, iTunes Connect will not be accessible and you will not be able to submit any apps or In-App Purchases. Processing of any Newsstand Atom feeds will be delayed until after December 27. Sales and Trends reports via the Autoingestion tool will be available but may also be delayed.

Also, you should not schedule any pricing changes or apps to go live between those dates. Pricing changes scheduled to take effect in that date range will cause the app to become unavailable for purchase until after December 27. Similarly, apps scheduled to go live during that range will not be released until after December 27.

If you have any additional questions, use the Contact Us module on iTunes Connect.

iTunes Connect is a tool used by developers to manage apps sold through the App Store, including updates, pricing, and descriptions.

Last year, iTunes Connect was scheduled to close from Dec. 21 to Dec. 28.

iTunes Connect Is Open Again Following The Holidays

Apple has reopened its iTunes Connect developer portal following the Christmas period closure — during which it gave respite to the gatekeepers whose job it is to manually approve new apps and updates.

Developers can now get back to changing prices, posting app updates, debuting new titles, and otherwise managing and/or analyzing app sales.

Apple sent out an email on Friday revealing that the service was back online.

Newsstand magazine updates also resumed with the re-opening of the portal.
