Open office download

This is a discussion on Open office download within the Mac Applications forums, part of the Mac Software category; Just downloaded open office, and Java download was part of it. Is this ok and do I need it. I don't understand what Java is, ...

    Open office download

    Just downloaded open office, and Java download was part of it. Is this ok and do I need it. I don't understand what Java is, but awhile ago Was there a problem with Java. Advice please for an incompetent mac user 😥

    Java is the programming language that Open Office is written in, so you need to have the Java runtime or framework installed before Open Office will work. I was not aware that there were any issue with the Java runtime...it gets updated on a reasonably regular basis.

    Thank you very much for the quick reply JezzerP. So it's all ok then. I was teaching myself spreadsheets and it seems quite good. So there is nothing I have to do, will it let me know when there is an update ?😳
