Time Machine not backing up External Hard Drive

I recently bought a new 1TB Western Digital External Hard Drive, and moved my iTunes and iPhoto libraries to this drive. When I plugged the Ext Drive in I had to reformat it to use with Mac, and I picked MS-DOS (FAT 32) so I could plug the drive into a Windows machine or use it with a Windows partition if needed.

But now I decided to reformat my Time Capsule Drive, which is a Western Digital MyBook 1TB. I decided to reformat so I could change the settings in Time Machine and exclude some folders from being updated. And now when I look to set up Time Machine again, I go into the exclude settings and it shows my External Media Drive greyed out so I can't remove it from the list.

Is there any way around this to make it backup the Media Drive? of Did formatting the Drive as MS-DOS (FAT 32) make it show up as not being able to be backed up?

Well turns out that Time Machine won't read FAT32 file system.. So Time Machine won't be able to back up my files.

Now my options are to reformat the external hard drive again but make it OS Journaled, or find new software to do the backups..
I think I will be reformatting the external because it will be the easiest for the future.
