Open Finder Go Menu Items in a New Window

When in the finder, if I use the keyboard commands assigned to items in the Go menu (Documents--Shift+Cmd+O, Desktop--Cmd+D, Downloads--Cmd+Opt+L, etc.) if there is a finder window already open, the item for which I pressed the keyboard command is opened in the already-existing window. Is there a way to force the finder to open a NEW window vs. opening the item in the already existing finder window? If there is a keyboard command, that's great. If I could go into terminal and change the default behavior, that would be even better. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
