Question MacBook Pro (mid-2009) shutting down spontaneously

My mid 2009 MacBook Pro keeps shutting down at random times. There is nothing consistent that triggers the shutdown. TechTool Pro 8 reports a failed battery test, but everything else passed the tests. Also, Disk First Aid found no problems.

    So, what could be happening?
Is it something I could fix or does it need to go to the fixit shop (or the trash.)
Could it be a battery problem?

Yes, it could quite easily be a problem with your battery. Do you run your MacBook on the battery or plugged-in? Do you notice the fan coming on a lot before it shuts down, as it could also be a heat issue. Either way, I would suggest a trip to the fixit shop to assess how much a repair would cost.

    Thank you. I'll do that.
