Just upgraded my MacBook Pro RAM

Seeing as the warranty on my Late 2011 13" MacBook Pro expired last month, I decided to take the plunge and upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 8GB. An 8GB kit (2x 4GB) from Crucial cost me 34.79 (Crucial UK)...a darn sight cheaper than the 320 Apple would charge me (Apple)!!

Fitting the RAM was really easy, and I am really pleased with the results. I don't think boot times have improved a great deal, but apps start much quicker and I see less of the spinning ball when running multiple apps at the same time. Having peered inside the guts of my MBP, I think I will be inclined to buy a new hard drive and install a fresh version of Mountain Lion when it comes along...provided Apple allow us to do so that is!!

Yes, I think I'd do it all over again. Given the huge price differential between getting an Apple RAM upgrade when you buy your MacBook Pro and buying RAM from a 3rd Party and going DIY, it's a bit of a no brainer. I would always wait until my machine was out of warranty though

The RAM and hard drive are easy to replace on the MBP as they are found just under the back plate and not hidden away under any other components. This is the first Mac hardware I've worked with so I was a little bit nervous!! Many years if building my own PCs stood me in good stead
