MacBook Pro Hard Drive available capacity

When I click "get info" for my hard drive, I see a amount of drive available to be 112 gb. Yet when I I hit "quick look" it shows only 80 gb available. This difference occurs in several utilities, so I really don't know how much free disk space I have.

    Any ideas?

That does sound odd. Have just checked my MBP and 'Get Info' and 'Quick Look' are reporting the same amount of free space for me. Does a reboot make any difference?

    Unfortunately not. I don't understand.

    UPDATE:

I now believe the difference is in my backups by Time Machine which uses "temp" storage. My understanding is that if I continue to build up space usage on my hard drive that this storage will start reducing, so I'm not really permanently losing ant real hard drive space.

Soooo, both "get info" and "quick look" are both correct in a loopy way.

As an update to the preceding posts which concerns a significant difference in available hard drive space per "get info" and "quick look" options, during the past two weeks the two numbers are slowly coming close to agreement. Each day the available space per "quick Look" increases while the space per "get info" remains close to its initial space. Now the difference between the two numbers is only 7 gb and falling.

Looks like they may come into agreement after all. Little by little.
