You could use a CD or a USB flash drive.

Any particular reason you want to use memory cards rather than say a USB hard drive?

i don't have an extra hard drive,i have one of those memory sticks that goes into the usb port but for some reason it didn't work, these are photos of antiques that i want to put somewhere safe for insurance purposes,I'm going to have to photograph them all again b,cos when i checked theyr very fuzzy(i took them from my windows pc which i don't have now)so i thought i would use my ipad2 to photograph them and then back them up on my mbp,so then as i said i need to put them on a small storage stick or card so i can keep them in the safe.

Well the MBP has an SD card reader built-in, so any SD memory card should do....an 8GB SDHC card from EBuyer will set you back around 8

Depends on how many piccies you need to store and how big they will be when taken via your iPad. I've used EBuyer a lot so can vouch for their service.

Try formatting your memory stick with your mpb. I used one all the time with my windows laptop but for some reason my mac didn't like it. After formatting it with Disk Utility to Fat32 it's never failed. Even works better in the ps3. *Touch Wood*

Remember formatting completely erases the memory so make sure you don't have anything in it you want to keep.

Here's a step by step guide...
