    Apple store broke my computer

I brought my macbook to the store to get a repair for the airport card. They lost my computer for two weeks, threw out the case because they thought it was "trash" and when I got it back it won't turn on. Now it's my fault the computer won't turn on because of water damage from 8 months ago. ://

I told them that I do not expect the airport card and other issues fixed, but I at least want it to turn on again so I can use it.

In addition they used the analogy that if I loaned my car to my friend and the transmission broke I wouldn't hold my friend reliable. However, they miss the fact that they are not my friends. This is like if I brought my car to the mechanic to get the power steering belt replaced and it came back with the engine busted.

I spent 3 hours with customer service so far and finally agreed to bring it in on Saturday to have data transferred to a new device from the same store. In addition they said there was a "possibility" somebody would look over the computer for anything that might be an obvious fix. But I do not trust them at all.

I have been told several times there is no way for them to fix this, at least not without me giving them 750$ and having it sent to some repair center. Am I overreacting and this is as good as it gets (Or "a good compromise" as the service representative tried to make me agree with multiple times) or am I being taken advantage of?

I'm so wrapped up in this I feel that I may not be seeing the situation clearly. My experience with apple before have been wonderful. Need some neutral people to be a sounding board for me on what to do next. Go with the compromise and get my data transferred or push the issue that I want my computer to turn on. Thank you everyone!

I am no legal eagle, but if your MacBook was turning on when you took it to the store, then I would have thought you would be well within your statutory rights to expect it to turn on when you get it back, whether or not they performed any work to fix the airport card. The fact that they have admitted 'losing' your laptop and putting the case in the bin, should only strengthen your case I would think.

However, Apple staff know only too well that they hold all the cards....they know that the 'little guy' is never likely to take them on if it came to a legal tussle over a single computer.
