    upgrading iMac 10.5.8

    Hi Everyone

    i have decided to upgrade my iMac, hopefully to Mountain Lion.
    However before doing so as a precaution I wish to gather up my photos and back them up onto an external hard drive.
    While this backing up is progressing successfully I suddenly get a message which says "unable to continue because photo xyz.jpg is in use" (eh?).
    This then prevents me from continuing to back up
    How do I get round this block?

    Check that iPhoto, or any other application that might be using the image is not open. Failing that, reboot the iMac, don't start any apps and see if that helps.

    Before you delve into the update, have you checked that your iMac meets the Mountain Lion system requirements? Have a look here :
