Photos of Ashton Kutcher in character as Steve Jobs surface

With yesterday being April Fool’s Day, it’s a little tricky to sort out the April Fool’s jokes from the genuine news stories, with yesterday’s story about a forthcoming Steve Jobs biopic being a case in point. Lots of news outlets yesterday reported on the announcement of the forthcoming biopic, as well as the key news that the Apple co-founder would be played by Ashton Kutcher. Because of the date, however, some websites weren’t sure if the story was actually an April Fool’s joke, but apparently it is in fact true, and an indie biopic on Steve Jobs is most definitely in the works. More than one, in fact! According to the Hollywood Reporter, the biopic will be called Jobs, and it is being produced and financed by Five Star Institute’s Mark Hulme. Principal photography will be getting underway in May, during Kutcher’s break from his CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men, with Joshua Michael Stern directing, and a script penned by Matt Whiteley. The Hollywood Reporter says that the film will focus on Jobs’ rise from “Northern California hippie” to his role as co-founder of Apple. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Sony also has its own Steve Jobs biopic in the works, having snapped up the rights to Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography of the late Apple CEO.

Photos of Ashton Kutcher in character as Steve Jobs surface

Images have appeared of actor Ashton Kutcher wearing Steve Jobs' iconic black turtleneck, jeans and sneakers outfit on his way to the set of the independent film about the late Apple co-founder.

Gossip site TMZ.com published photos of Kutcher "in full character" on Saturday. His outfit was a near match to the one Jobs was famous for wearing.

Jobs so liked the black turtleneck that he reportedly owned hundreds of them. Mona Simpson, Jobs' sister, remarked at his memorial service last October that he had probably owned enough copies of the shirt for everyone in attendance.

Last month, reports surfaced that Kutcher had been cast as Jobs for the indie biopic, which is tentatively titled "Jobs: Get Inspired" and will span 1971 to 2000. The "Two and a Half Men" star had previously been noted as resembling Jobs. The film's producer, David Hulme, has said that Kutcher believes the part was "meant for him" and has set out to "prove to the world that this is the right part for him."

Hulme indicated in April that he is aiming to release the film in the fourth quarter of 2012. Rumors have suggested that broadway star Josh Gad has been tapped to play Jobs' partner Steve Wozniak. Director Joshua Michael Stern is said to believe the project is "award-worthy."

Ashton Kutcher’s Steve “jOBS” Movie Will Have Scenes In The Original Apple Garage

There are currently two movies about Steve Jobs in the works. The one we’re most excited for is based off Walter Isaacson’s official biography and is being made by Sony in conjunction with Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin. An indie film dubbed jOBS and starring Ashton Kutcher as Jobs is also underway. More information about the second film has been released.

We’ve already seen pictures of Kutcher in the infamous black turtleneck, and now the people behind the film have confirmed that parts of jOBS will be shot in the garage where Apple was started.

Apple began in a garage on Crist Drive in Los Altos, California.

The press release says that the filmmakers will be shooting “early scenes in the actual Los Altos home where Jobs grew up and in the historic garage where he and Steve Wozniak founded Apple.” jOBS will be directed by Joshua Michael Stern, a relatively unknown Hollywood director.

Titled jOBS, the biopic stars Ashton Kutcher as the iconic Silicon Valley visionary, and will shed new light on Steve Jobs’ most defining and personal moments, motivations, and the people that drove him. The film covers Jobs from his early years as an impressionable youth and wayward hippie, through his initial successes and infamous ousting, to his storybook return and ultimate triumphs as a man who set out to change the world and did just that.

Executive producer Mark Hulme and Five Star Feature Films launched the production immediately following Jobs’ retirement in August 2011. Screenwriter Matt Whiteley, while penning the script, utilized a team of expert researchers based on months of exhaustive research and interviews with Steve Jobs’ friends, colleagues, and mentors to develop the most truthful and gripping picture of Jobs’ life.

From director Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote, Neverwas), and Oscar winning cinematographer Russell Carpenter (Titanic), jOBS details the major moments and defining characters that influenced Steve Jobs on a daily basis from 1971 through 2000.

jOBS chronicles the 30 most defining years of Steve Jobs’ life, as seen through his, colleagues’, and friends’ eyes. Dark, honest, and uncompromising, jOBS plunges into the depths of his character, creating an intense dialogue-driven story that is as much a sweeping epic as it is an immensely personal portrait of Steve Jobs’ life.

A rousing narrative of this business and tech icon, jOBS pulls no punches and does not speculate, telling only the candid and captivating account of the life of Steven Paul Jobs.

You can visit the movie’s website for more information.

Actress Ahna O’Reilly To Play Girlfriend In Upcoming Steve ‘jOBS’ Biopic

More casting details have surfaced today for the Steve Jobs indie biopic starring Ashton Kutcher. Actress Ahna O’Reilly, most known for her role in The Help, will star opposite Kutcher as Chris-Ann Brennan, the love interest of Steve Jobs.

The biopic, titled jOBS, is expected to start filming next month and be available later this year.

Chris-Ann Brennan, a painter from the Bay area, dated Jobs on and off during his college years and eventually gave birth to his first daughter, Lisa, whom he disowned for a time. Jobs later went on to marry Laurene Powell. Considering that jOBS takes place in the early years of Jobs’ career while he was still a ”impressionable youth and wayward hippie,” the character of Brennan will be a significant part of the film.

Ahna O’Reilly was previously seen in movies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Nancy Drew before her role in The Help.

It was recently revealed that jOBS will shoot scenes in the original Apple garage, and Josh Gad is set to play the role of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Sony is also working on a Steve Jobs movie with screenwriter Aaron Sorkin that will be based off Walter Isaacson’s official biography.

'jOBS' actors seen on set at Steve Jobs' old Los Altos home

New photos show that the upcoming jOBS biopic is well underway with actors already populating their roles on-set at Steve Jobs' old Los Altos home where the first Apple computer was built.

A bearded Ashton Kutcher, who will play Jobs in the independent film, was spotted by Pacific Coast News photographers roaming the set sporting 1980s-era clothing alongside fellow actor Josh Gad in the garage where Apple was founded.

Other cast members seen on set were Matthew Modine as former Apple CEO John Sculley, Ahna O'Reilly as Jobs' ex-girlfriend Chris-Ann Brennan and an unknown actor who looks to be playing Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

The jOBS biopic is on schedule for a release later this year and is the first of two pictures to chronicle the life of the lat technology mogul.

A separate, relatively big-budget Sony film has Academy- and Emmy- Award winner Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) penning the big screen adaptation of Walter Isaacson's authorized documentary. That project has also enlisted Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak as a "tutor" who will assumedly coach cast and crew on authenticity.

Sorkin recently spoke at the D10 conference and likened his film more to a painting than a photograph. The movie doesn't yet have a solid release date.

“jOBS” biopic starring Ashton Kutcher premiering at Sundance Film Festival Jan. 27

Sundance Film Festival announced this afternoon that the Steve Jobs biopic titled “jOBS”, starring famed-actor Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs, will be premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival this January.

As we’ve previously covered, the biopic will take a look at the early founding and thirty years of Apple, centered around the late co-founder Steve Jobs. Co-founder Steve Wozniak will make an appearance in the film played by Josh Gad and former CEO and co-founder John Sculley will also make an appearance, played by Matthew Modine. Scenes in the movie were filmed in the “historic garage” where Jobs and Steve Wozniak founded Apple. The film’s early scenes will even feature Jobs’ Los Altos home where he grew up to maintain “accuracy and authenticity” during the movie-making process, the film makers revealed in the summer.

The 2013 Sundance Film Festival will be running from January 17 – 27, and jOBS will get the honor of being the festival’s closing film on the 27th, Hollywood Reporter first noted. It is not clear will it will air thus-after.

Some have noted that the portrayal of Steve Jobs we should really be waiting for is Aaron Sorkin’s version backed by Sony. With rights to the official Steve Jobs biography written by Walter Isaacson, Sorkin’s movie will only consist of three scenes. Each scene will be 30 minutes long and will follow Jobs backstage just before the unveiling of the Mac, NeXT, and the original iPod. Not much else about the film is known.

Ken Segall, the author of “Insanely Simple,” took to his blog in May to discuss the biopic starring Kutcher. “Apparently, there are two ways to make a Steve Jobs movie,” explained Segall. “You can do a low-budget indie film using director Joshua Michael Stern (who?) and first-time screenwriter Matt Whitely, and give it an appropriately cheesy name like [original name was 'Steve Jobs: Get Inspired', but it is now 'jOBS']. Or you can pay Isaacson a million bucks for the rights to his book, and prepare to pay far bigger bucks for everything that follows. Which is what Sony Pictures has done, bless their little hearts.”

Josh Gad Shown as Steve Wozniak in New Shots From “jOBS” Biopic

New images from the independent Steve Jobs biopic, titled and stylized “jOBS,” were released Tuesday by USA Today. The shots offer the first look of actor Josh Gad in his role as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Since the film was first announced last April, many have commented on the strong resemblance of actor Ashton Kutcher to the man he plays in the film, the late Steve Jobs. “There is an eerie resemblance — he didn’t have to do much to get there,’’ Mr. Gad told USA Today. ”When he showed up, it sent a ripple of shock throughout the set. Everyone was like, ‘We’re in the presence of Jobs. Let’s go do this.’ It was literally like being in the room with the creator of Apple. This is one of those roles that’s the perfect fit."

While final judgement will have to wait until the film premieres next week at the Sundance Film Festival, the initial images of Mr. Gad do not show as strong of a resemblance to Mr. Wozniak.

Readers should note that this film is separate from the Sony-backed Aaron Sorkin project, which will reportedly be based on key “scenes” from the life of Mr. Jobs as described in Walter Isaacson’s biography.

After its premiere at Sundance, “jOBS” will have a limited nationwide release in April.
