    Mail Attachments

When adding certain attachments to a Mail email (such as jpeg or pdf) an image appears rather than the usual blue icon.
Right clicking allows 'View as icon' but when received by the addressee the images show rather than the small icon.
Windows users always return to me and say they only get a small image despite me telling them that the image is, in fact, an icon to be treated as such to open full size.
Is there anyway of attaching jpegs etc as just the small icon.
This seems to have happened only after moving from Snow Leopard to Lion.
Would be grateful for any help available as it is such a frustrating problem.

There is an check-box option in Mail to 'Send Windows Friendly Attachments' found at the bottom of the Attacments window. Are you using this?
